The creative industries are estimated to be worth £70bn to the UK’s economy. It is imperative that we grow our indigenous skills, both in the craft of film and in entrepreneurship. Isle of Man Film passionately supports talent development, both in the Island’s schools and in the wider community.
Into Film, educating young people through film
We deliver funding and support to Into Film, a charity educating young people through studying and making films. Into Film operates in twenty schools across the Isle of Man, and nearly three hundred across the UK and Ireland.
Mannin Shorts, a film training scheme based in the Isle of Man
In 2014 Isle of Man Film committed funding support to micro-budget projects, under the banner of the Mannin Shorts scheme. Mannin Shorts is a platform for filmmakers to hone their skills, develop their ideas and make films on the Isle of Man. Mannin Shorts provides numerous workshops throughout the year in directing, cinematography, post-production, creative writing and more. Visiting professionals have included Danny Stack, Future Shorts, Lesley Manning and Chris Jones (author of the Guerilla Filmmaker’s Handbook).
The Mannin Shorts programme helps to develop the local creative skillbase and provides opportunities for those who might wish to work in other areas of the film industry. Several alumni of the scheme have gone on to develop their own careers in film & television industries through skills and experience gained on the scheme.
